Being environmentally responsible in all facets of our business is a core part of our company mission statement and our company culture. From recycling existing roofing materials to minimizing trips to the landfill, being green in roofing means a number of different things to different people.

  • Recycling
Recycling, the concept of utilizing materials time and time again, has become a part of the American culture. Scrap metals from our sheet metal shop are sent to the metals recycler. Single ply roofing materials can be returned to the manufacturer for use in future products. Asphalt materials can be ground and used in paving applications.

  • Photovoltaics
Not many years ago, the idea of placing energy producing panels on buildings to create electricity seemed to be a very futuristic technology, but not anymore. As the cost of solar panels continues to decrease, more and more buildings will be designed for or retrofitted with photovoltaic systems. Cram Roofing has been involved in a number of roofing projects where photovoltaic systems were installed.

  • Landfill Management
Before a reroofing project commences, there may be some sustainable opportunities with the debris being removed from the building. If there is roofing gravel, perhaps it can be used in a parking lot or rock landscaping. At times, the roofing materials and insulation may be able to be recycled or saved for another use. Another option might be to salvage the materials and donate them for use by a non-profit organization. At Cram Roofing, these are just a few examples where we try to be innovative in our efforts to minimize the amount of debris being sent to landfills.

  • Garden Roofs
Rooftop garden roofs are gaining popularity with owners especially in more urban environments where tenants or building users have access to the roof. Garden roofs are available in different media or growth materials. The design considerations include roof loads, desired vegetation and available irrigation.

  • Sustainable Materials
The life cycle of metal roofing systems is in excess of 50 years in most parts of the country if they are installed correctly. That makes metal roofing one of the most sustainable roofing systems in the marketplace today and they are available in a wide variety of pre-finished colors, thicknesses, and profiles.
